Speedwell Insurance Brokers was originally set up in 2006 by Andrew Ford and Mike Locke in support of another broker’s application to become a Lloyds broker. In 2014 Speedwell become Lloyd’s Brokers in their own right – with Broker number 1347 and pseudonym SIB.
Speedwell is registered with the UK Financial Services Authority – Registered number 458142.
Chilean business remains an important component of our business but over the past years we have built up business from other Latin American countries. Much of the business is wholesale and comes from local insurance and reinsurance brokers.
Historically most of the business is marine – though we have diversified into some other specialist classes. We are recognised by underwriters as being Latin American specialists and are to up to date with the regulatory requirements of most countries within the region. We have travelled to the region regularly over the past twenty five years and continue to do so.
We have found that it is extremely beneficial for the same people involved in the placement of business to be also involved in the collection of the claim. This is unusual in London but we have found that it can hasten the claim payment when the full background to an account is given. As an example, we have represented both owner and underwriters against salvors in London arbitration hearings.
